MEET George Hobson, the ambitious teenage magic tricks who has got his mind set on being the next Derren Brown.
Sixteen-year-old George is currently studying for his A-levels but devotes much of his time to working on magic tricks with the ultimate ambition of having his own prime time television magic show.
The Pocklington School pupil, who has set up his own business performing at events and functions all over the country, recently discussed his plans for the future with Paul Daniels after arranging a meeting at Paul’s home in Oxfordshire.
George, from Elvington, said the legendary magician taught him and other enthusaists magic tricks and gave advice.
He said: “It was a really good day. magic tricks for saleIt was really surreal meeting the godfather of magic. It was surreal to be sitting in his front room listening to these fascinating stories. He was really funny and always had a joke about something.
“He told about how he chopped off the end of his finger and how that affected his magic and offered me the wise words... ‘George, if I can give you one piece of advice it’s not to chop off the end of your finger with a table saw’.”
George said about his love of magic tricks: “I first got into magic on Christmas Day 2003 when I received a magic box from Father Christmas. I practised and practised, annoying family members by always saying ‘pick a card, any card’. magic tricks onlineI loved the idea of fooling people years older than me and leaving people in awe from my magic, so it was something I definitely wanted to progress further
“I hope to bring back classic tea time magic at six o’clock on a Saturday night where children sat around the TV. I want to bring back that retro stage feel like Paul Daniels’ show and Wayne Dobson’s.”
As well as card tricks and more standard magical fare, George is also interested in the psychological aspect of the performances of showmen such as Derren Brown and has been on a course to learn about hypnosis. http://www.chinamagictricks.com/
